CAROLINA FOREST - South Carolina Forestry Commission crews will leave for the night after continuing to fight today's hot spots from Sunday's Horry County brush fire that flared back up Monday.
Spokesperson for SCFC Scott Hawkins said crews will continue to fight the fire first thing in the morning. Tomorrow's forecasted winds will require early and persistent fire suppression. The forestry commission will have four plows working the fire and several more on standby should the weather turn against crews.
Hawkins said no structures are threatened at this time. The fire is expected to subside greatly overnight as winds die down and humidity increase.
There is a line around the fire but the fire breaks will need to be improved tomorrow.
Horry County fire crews have agreed to patrol the fire-lines during the night.
The Monday flare up caused an additional 35 - 40 acres to burn. Crews were already on scene when the fire flared back up; they were using GPS devices to determine the exact acreage burned in Sunday's fire.
