MYRTLE BEACH -- Myrtle Beach police officers captured a fugitive in the city over the weekend.
Officers were dispatched to 1001 Yaupon Drive in Myrtle Beach after being told that a man was growing marijuana plants. The witness said John Fitzgerald Reed, 53, told her that he was growing the plants to sell them for $2,000. She said Reed also told her that he was wanted by the U.S. Marshals and using a fake identity. The woman said Reed told her he was working to permanently change his name and identity by using acid to burn off his fingerprints.
Upon searching the residence, police found five plants growing in a plastic tub in a closet. Police arrested him and found out there was a warrant for his arrest for “unlawfully taking or disposition over $500 and motor vehicle.”
Reed was charged with simple possession of marijuana and for being a fugitive. He remains in custody at J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
