RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The National Weather Service says the system that brought heavy rains to the Deep South will pose less of a threat to North Carolina.
Forecasters say a cold front will pass through the state Friday, providing a slight risk of severe thunderstorms east of Interstate 95. National Weather Service meteorologist Jim Merrill says the unseasonable temperatures aren't warm enough to trigger severe weather, but it will be quite windy over the eastern third of the state, with wind advisories posted for Carteret County, as well as portions of the Outer Banks in Dare and Hyde counties until mid-afternoon.
Rain is also expected for areas of the piedmont before the front passes off the North Carolina coast.
Heavy rains soaked Alabama on Thursday, but there were no confirmed reports of tornadoes.
