DARLINGTON _ Charles Woodle recently announced his intentions to seek the office of Sheriff of Darlington County. He will run on the Democratic ticket.
Woodle made an unsuccessful bid for the office of Sheriff in 2008.
"Of course, I was disappointed, but I realize all things happen for a reason," Woodle said.
“The past few years have given me opportunities to speak with literally hundreds of citizens from all areas of Darlington County. I have been in law enforcement for the past 28 years. Never in my law enforcement career have I heard so many citizens expressing concern about the lack of ‘connection’ to the current administration. By listening to their concerns, I have gained a much broader understanding of how to better serve all citizens of Darlington County.”
Woodle said he is familiar with many of the officers on the current Sheriff's Department and beleives they will benefit from reorganizing the department to best utilize their individual talents and skills.
“There are some very capable officers in Darlington County and it is time for them to have a chance to work more efficiently and effectively,” Woodle said
Woodle began his law enforcement career in 1985. He was a member of Darlington County Sheriff's Department for 16 years, holding positions in patrol, warrant division, criminal investigations and narcotics. He is currently Chief of Police in Lamar, a position he has held since 2007. Under Woodle's leadership, the crime rate in Lamar has dropped by 85 percent, according to Woodle.
“I owe much of that success to a unique relationship with the citizens of Lamar and the surrounding community,” he said. “If someone comes to me with a problem or a concern, they know me or any of my officers will work to fairly resolve the situation. I will do my best to continue that trend when elected as sheriff.”
