Leaders in one part of the Grand Strand continue to examine ways to address homelessness. This week, Horry County police, arrested more than half a dozen homeless people for trespassing. The group set up tents on private property.
Many of the area shelters are full and people in the homeless community said they don't have anywhere else to go. Some church groups offered to help by providing food, blankets and other resources.
"As a community of preachers we want to figure out where to send the homeless and is there a home that we can get them in to," said Angel Olney-Livingston, Revelation Missionary Church.
Shelters and church organizations continue to discuss ways to raise funds and expand services to help homeless people. However, some residents said the time, effort and money going into the cause could be used more effectively.
The City of Myrtle Beach continues to work on a 10-year plan to end homelessness. Part of that plan includes educating people about homelessness, raising money to help address the problem and determining what services are needed to better serve the homeless community.
