Haley: business and tourism should work together

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Gov. Nikki Haley says tourism and business should work together to promote South Carolina.

Haley told a tourism conference in Greenville on Tuesday that business can attract vacationers. She noted that with Boeing opening its new plant last year, a lot of Boeing executives bought second homes in the Lowcountry.

Lawmakers said earlier it's unlikely South Carolina will have a casino any time soon.

State Sen. Ronnie Cromer of Prosperity said Monday while supporters say casinos mean jobs, the idea is not likely to pass. Goose Creek Sen. Paul Campbell says there is already gambling with the lottery but the chances for a casino are not good. There is currently a proposal for a casino and resort hotel near Hardeeville.

Tourism means $14 billion for the state's economy.
