Fire damaged some of the motors and a fishing boat stored inside one of the buildings at Lake City Electric Motor Repair Inc. on Sunday night.
The fire occurred in a metal building that was the business’ newest addition, but Operations Manager David Cook was looking on the bright side.
“Nobody’s hurt — motors can be replaced,” he said.
The fire started near the center of the building, but its cause hasn’t been determined, acting Lake City Fire Chief Randy Driggers said.
Because the boat had been parked in the middle of the facility, Lake City Electric Motor Repair Operations Manager David Cook said he thought the watercraft might have caught fire.
Lake City firefighters, assisted by the South Lynches Fire Department, responded to the South Acline Street business after receiving a report of the fire at 6:49 p.m., Driggers said.
Cook said South Lynches District Chief Rusty Owens was passing the business when he noticed the smoke and reported the fire.
When crews arrived, they saw heavy black smoke coming from the front of the building, Driggers said. They had the fire under control in about 20 minutes, he said.
Some smoke had drifted into the adjoining building, also part of Lake City Electric Motor Repair, but it was unclear whether the other building had received any smoke damage.
