Thanks to the hard work and dedication of their custodial staffs, Pate Elementary School and Carolina Elementary School have been chosen as the Clean Schools of the Year. The Clean School of the Month and the Clean School of the Year awards were created by the Darlington County Board of Education to recognize school and custodial staffs who do an outstanding job of maintaining school facilities.
“Clean schools mean a clean learning environment for our students and a better stewardship of tax dollars for our constituents,” said Larry Stegner, DCSD Director of Operations.
The programs are based on a point system designed to give all schools an equal chance to win. The schools are split between two divisions: Those with more than 400 students and those with less than 400 students. Each school is evaluated monthly on a given set of criteria. The points are then tallied and the Clean School of the Month award is given to the schools in the two divisions with the most points.
At the end of the year, the school in each division with the highest cumulative points wins. The winning school receives an engraved plaque and the custodians receive cash awards.
Congratulations to Pate Elementary’s Tim Brewer, lead custodian, Isaac Johnson, Gladys Brown and Francina Jacobs. Congratulations also to Carolina Elementary’s Frank Hickman, lead custodian, Ella Fields, and Carolyn
