Marion County Schools ready for new start

More than 5,000 students in the Marion, Mullins and Centenary communities will arrive at their prospective schools on Monday Aug. 15, ready to start a brand new school year.

Marion County Schools’ new superintendent Dr. Dan Strickland said that the year will be exciting and he looks forward to working together in consolidation efforts to make the school system the best in the state.

“Our mission will be celebrated, not because of what it means for the individual school or district, but because of what it means for the individual student,” he said.

Each school district has scheduled open houses where parents and students can meet their new teachers and greet administrators.

On Aug. 9, Marion High School will hold freshman orientation at 5:30 p.m. Johnakin will hold sixth grade orientation at 6:30 p.m.

On Aug. 10, Palmetto Middle School will host open house and registration from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Mullins High School will hold freshman orientation at 5:30 p.m.

On Aug. 11, Easterling Primary School and Marion Intermediate School will hold open house and registration from 12 noon to 6 p.m. Open house and registration will be held at Johnakin Middle School and Marion High School from 1 – 7 p.m. Britton’s Neck Elementary School and Creek Bridge High School will hold open house and registration from 4-7 p.m. McCormick Elementary and North Mullins Primary School will host open house and registration 5-7 p.m.

The Marion County Board of Education and combined school districts will hold their first annual Countywide Back to School Rallies on Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. School supplies will be delivered along with a full day of fun, food and family entertainment.

The District 1 rally will be held at C.D. Joyner Auditorium on 719 North Main Street, Marion.

The District 2 rally will be held on the Palmetto Education Center grounds on 200 Broad St. Mullins. In case of rain the event will be held at Mullins High School.

The District 7 rally will be held at Creek Bridge High Schoool.
