CONWAY - Conway Police have charged a Myrtle Beach police officer with DUI after crashing his personal car into the front of a church.
According to a press release, Travis Preston, 40, of Conway is charged with Driving Under the Influence(DUI) in connection with a one vehicle accident which occurred early Tuesday morning.
Shortly before 4:00 a.m., Conway Police received a report of a vehicle fire at 198 Long Ave (Trinity United Methodist Church).
Officers arrived on the scene and located a vehicle which had struck the front porch of the church.
The driver of the vehicle was not at the scene when officers arrived, but was located a short distance away from the collision scene.
The driver, later identified as Travis Preston, identified himself to officers as a Myrtle Beach police officer.
Conway Fire Department also responded and extinguished the fire.
Preston sustained minor injuries for which he was treated and released from Conway Medical Center.
Preston appeared before Judge Jane Mackey this morning and received a $997 personal recognizance bond.
Myrtle Beach Police Capt. David Knipes said Preston is suspended without pay, pending the outcome of the investigation.
