The Lake City Concert Series will launch its 25th anniversary season Sept. 23 with the Smoky Mountain Brass Quintet, which performs a variety of music from Early Renaissance to pop.
The group, founded in 1993, is the quintet in residence at Western Carolina University, in Cullowhee, N.C.
On Nov. 18, Preston Smith, a native of Kingstree and a former choir member at Lake City Presbyterian Church, will present a program along with trumpeter Gregory Schoonover. Smith is currently an organist and conductor in New York City.
The Palmetto Mastersingers from Columbia will sing on Jan. 27. This male chorus was formed in 1981 to offer an opportunity for men from all walks of life to sing together.
Lake City natives and church choir directors’ Ann Rodgers Chandler and Roger Kirby have brought together a combined choir from the Lake City churches and the Chancel Choir from Florence First Presbyterian Church to present an evening of sacred masterpieces and choral favorites on March 31.
All these concerts will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Lake City Presbyterian Church.
The series’ third annual fund raising gala, “An Evening for the Arts: Movie Night,” will be held at 6:30 p.m. May 12 at Nan Ya Plastics Corporation Banquet Hall. Under the direction of Glen Gourley, “the guys” will take a look at musicals and movie music in this vocal tribute to the silver screen.
The event will also showcase local artists’ and schoolchildren’s works of art that may be purchased at silent auction. Admission is free to season ticket holders and $25 for non-season ticket holders.
