At least four people died throughout the Pee Dee and Grand Strand as a result of car wrecks over Labor Day Weekend.
The first deadly accident happened Friday on Highway 501 in Aynor, just north of Highway 319. South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers said a man driving his moped swerved in front of a Chrysler Pacifica and was hit. Horry County Coroner Robert Edge said Jerry Chapman, 55, of Florence died at Conway Medical Center. He was not wearing a helmet and no charges have been filed in this case.
Santos Morales, 37, died as a result of a collision in Georgetown Saturday evening. Police said his car collided with a pickup truck about 5:00 p.m. on US 701, north of the Highway 51 intersection. The accident remains under investigation.
Twenty-six-year-old Kenneth Burgess of Johnsonville died after losing control of his car early Monday morning. SCHP Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins said the accident happened about 4:00 a.m. on SC 261, about 12 miles south of Kingstree. Burgess’ car ran off the road and hit a tree. He was the only person in the vehicle and Collins said he was not wearing a seatbelt.
SCHP officers are investigating a deadly wreck that happened about 12:30 p.m. Monday in Dillon County. The Highway Patrol’s website shows the wreck happened at Oakland Drive near Country Club Road in Hamer. The victim’s identity has not been released at this time.
