A man died in a crash on Interstate 20 early Wedneday morning, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Lee County Coroner Alford D. Elmore said the crash was head-on between a Corvette driven by the victim and a van driven by a Fayetteville, NC, resident.
The van driver was taken to Palmetto Richland Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The Corvette was driving east in the west-bound lanes, Elmore said.
The victim was burned in the fire that followed the crash, he said.
The tentatively identified 20-year-old Camden resident was pronounced dead at 4:23 a.m. after the crash around the 116 mile marker, according to SCHP Web sites.
Elmore said positive identification was all but impossible at the scene because of the fire and that the autopsy taking place Wednesday morning would lead to a positive identification.
The interstate was closed during the investigation and cleanup, a Highway Patrol official said.
