MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce has announced that $1500 in new PE equipment of their choice will be awarded to the Horry County school with the most paid registrations for the upcoming Biggest Loser 5k/1 Mile Challenge on September 25.

“We are extremely grateful to the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce for including our students in the promotion of this event. Horry County Schools enthusiastically support activities such as 'Biggest Loser' that encourage children to adopt healthy lifestyles,” said Horry County Schools Superintendent Dr. Cindy Elsberry

Flyers are being distributed this week to all Horry County school students to encourage registration among students, family and friends.

School P.E. teachers will then track the number of participants for the incentive program.

“We’re excited about both the national exposure that this event will bring to the Myrtle Beach area and the healthy lifestyle message it sends.  Partnering with Horry County Schools promotes the event to students and families within our area and also compliments NBC’s ‘Biggest Loser’ efforts to reach out to those that may not normally participate in an event like this,” said Danna Lilly, Director of Sales for the Myrtle Beach Area CVB/Chamber of Commerce.

The Biggest Loser Event Challenge is a series of nationwide 5k and one mile events designed to inspire Americans of all fitness levels to get moving with others.

The series will kick off in Myrtle Beach September 25. The event will be filmed by NBC for a two hour Biggest Loser special to be aired in November.

Following the Biggest Loser Event Challenge, the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber will host a free Fall Fitness Festival and Expo open to the public until 7 p.m.

The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber, in partnership with Continental Event and Sports Management Group, “Biggest Loser”, and Active.com is committed to creating awareness and encouraging participation in the event through grassroots efforts within the local community.

The incentive program for Horry County schools is part of the chamber’s effort to encourage that participation.

The cost for registration is $25. For event registration, visit www.VisitMyrtleBeach.com.
