Department of Health and Environmental Control presents bed bug seminar

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Myrtle Beach- South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control presented a training session on bed bugs. D-HEC informed members of the hospitality industry how to spot and control the pests.

Officials at D-HEC say bed bugs don't discriminate against sanitary or unsanitary areas. The pests can hitch-hike on humans and suitcases. D-HEC says it wants to raise awareness about bed bugs.

"We wanted to be proactive not reactive and in our role as the public health entity give them support and education and knowledge to help them if they do have to face the problem," says Vicki Blair, with South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.

Bed Bugs are blood-feeding insects that have been persistent pests of humans throughout recorded history. Since the 1900s, a resurgence of bed bugs has been reported. Infestations have occurred in homes, hotels, cruise ships, trains, long term care facilities, stores and movie theaters.
