NORTH MYRTLE BEACH—A fish fry and barbeque helped the North Myrtle Beach Rescue Squad raised money Saturday for themselves.

The EMT group is all volunteer. The workers do not get paid nor do they bill those they help.

The residents were first notified of the event thought the mail. The squad also used that letter to ask for donations.

This fund raiser is just one of two the group does all year long to raise the money they need for their daily operations.

After 52 years of doing the fundraiser, the group must be doing something right.

"Our mailer went out three weeks ago,” said Chief Casey Paradise of the Rescue Squad. “We started getting mail approximately two weeks ago. Our costs were covered as of yesterday [Friday] morning, before the fish fry. So everything we make today, and what comes in later for the mailer, will be profit for the squad."

The squad thanked everyone for donating by serving those who came to eat.

They were expecting to serve about 4,000 plates.
