FLORENCE- Radio station the Flo 102.9 partnered with syndicated radio host Steve Harvey as well as several area churches for a turkey giveaway on Tuesday.
Steve Harvey's program provides the turkeys which are distributed through local radio stations and churches across the country.
"I think it means a great deal," said Denis Davis of the Flo 102.9.
"For me, Thanksgiving is a great opportunity to get together and have dinner and that joyous wish we want to extend to 100 families here in the Pee Dee community," Davis said.
100 turkeys were made available to residents in the Pee Dee, who were selected to receive them based on their level of need.
Cherry Grove Baptist Church of Darlington, Seventh Day Adventist Church on Oakland Ave in Florence, Progressive Church of our Lord Jesus Christ of Florence and the Housing Authority of Florence helped to identify needy families and make them eligible for the giveaway.
Jimmie Deas is pastor of Progressive Church of Lord Jesus Christ in Florence and helped pass out turkeys Tuesday.
Deas said the giveaway allows families to experience the joy of the holiday without having to worry about how to pay for the meal.
"Thanksgiving is a very important time of the year and this is an opportunity for some who may not be as fortunate as others to also gather around the table and have a real good meal," Deas said.
"This is certainly an opportunity to be able to give and to be able to share with others," he said.
This is the second year that the giveaway has taken place in Florence.
