Horry County Police probe rash of car break-ins in Avalon community

MYRTLE BEACH—Residents in the Avalon neighborhood off Carolina Forest have reported six cars had been broken into since Sunday.

Horry County police do no have any suspects at this time but they did recover two finger prints off the driver side door of one automobiles. There is no further information at this time.

Four break-ins were reported to the police on Sunday, May 2, 2010, one on Monday, May 3, 2010 and one on Tuesday, May 04, 2010. Three of the four cars that were broken into on Sunday were at the same residence, but all four cars were on the same street.

According to police reports, the owners of all of the vehicles believe the cars were locked. In one of the reports, an officer stated he believed the unknown suspect used a “slim-jim type device to gain access to the vehicle.”

Each incident reported over at least $200 in property missing. More than one GPS system and I-Pod was taken from the cars. A purse was stolen out of one car, including the owner’s wallet and credit cards.
