MYRTLE BEACH -- Whether you support the healthcare reform law or oppose it, most everyone calls this a pivotal day in our nation's history.
Senior citizens in our area at Magnolias Assisted Living Center in Myrtle Beach watched President Obama’s speech in the lobby of the center.
Several cheered as Obama signed the bill into law.
Some even compared the law to the creation of social security and called it a major historical moment.
“Well I think he made history today. He passed a good thing that he's been fighting so long for and it's finally passed,” said Eleanore Jarosz.
Another man, Roy Mulliger says this is one of the biggest days in the nation's history. He says it's up there with the days when Social Security was passed and when the U.S. entered World War II.
“When Roosevelt signed Social Security some time ago. (You got the same feelings again?) Yes. (How so?) Well it goes through you and makes you feel better,” said Mulliger.
Most of the residents say they're excited about the passing of the bill, but they want to see how everything shapes out.
“It’s the first time I ever witnessed it in my lifetime, anything like this. (How significant would you say it is?) I think it's real big, very big. We just gotta’ wait and see now,” said Doris Mulliger.
There was some concern raised about seniors having to pay higher healthcare premiums and that's an issue we'll continue to follow.
