Last week a milestone was passed by Van Threadgill and the Threadgill family of Florence. This sort of accomplishment needs to be recognized and celebrated.
Thirty-five years ago Van Threadgill started a new business, “Van’s Auto Sales” on East Palmetto Street. Very few businesses in the Pee Dee have survived 35 years. Yet, Van and his family have seen their business grow and prosper. Their core beliefs in service to the community, fair dealing with the public and honesty have garnered them a large group of very loyal customers from throughout the Pee Dee. Especially in an industry of used automobile sales and service it is rare to see businesses thrive for 35 years, but rarer still to see second and third generations involved with the business.
Van Threadgill left Paxton Ford (now Mike Richenbach Ford/Mercury) in 1975, after serving many years as salesman and finally as sales manager. He started his own business at 2801 E. Palmetto St. where the business is still located. Now Van, his son Billy, and grandsons Michael and William Jr. and their families are still active today.
This success story deserves a “Thumbs Up” in the weekend edition, a story with picture in the business section or at least a “Letter to the Editor” to recognize this rare accomplishment.
