SURFSIDE BEACH - Retail giant Walmart is a long-time supporter of the Children's Miracle Network, and now employees at one local store are finding new ways to raise money for the cause.
Employees at the Surfside Beach store put together a cook book full of their own recipes, and are now selling the books at registers. They went on sale about three weeks ago, and now there are already plans for a second book.
"I think the more people are involved, it makes more people feel good about themselves, and the store they work for," said Lisa Plummer, the store's CMN coordinator. "We just need to take care of the kids that need our help," she said.
Last year, the Surfside store raised more money--over $18,000--than any other store in its market, which includes Horry County and parts of the Pee Dee.
The store will have a special booth set up on Saturday, March 27, to sell the books. They are $6.00 each.
The employees also hold an annual golf tournament to raise money. This year's event is May 5 at Indian Wells Golf Club.
"We're always wanting new ideas," said shift manager Court Heath. "Anything that could ever be thought about--if anybody has new ideas to help us raise money--we're always open to that," he said.
