MARION — The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating a four-vehicle crash resulting from a high-speed chase that left a sheriff’s deputy and two other motorists injured late Friday afternoon.
Marion County deputies were assisting Latta police in a vehicle pursuit traveling on U.S. 501 coming into Marion County, Sheriff Mark Richardson said
The chase began in Latta and ended in the parking lot of the IGA grocery store south of Marion on South Main Street, Marion Police Lt. Farmer Blue said.
The suspect’s car first collided with the deputy’s car, then hit three other cars in the store’s parking lot. Two people in the three cars were injured, a highway patrol official said.
The deputy, who suffered minor injuries, was treated and released from Marion County Medical Center early Friday night, Richardson said.
The suspect, who has not yet been identified, was arrested at the scene and multiple charges against him are pending, Richardson said.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol’s Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team is conducing the probe of the accident.
