Florence's Rebuilding Together plans meeting for National Rebuilding Day

»  Comments | Post a Comment

FLORENCE — The Florence chapter of Rebuilding Together, formerly Christmas in April, will finalize plans for National Rebuilding Day, April 24, during a meeting in Florence on Tuesday. It will be at 6 p.m. at Highland Park Church on Second Loop Road.

The Florence chapter is one of more than 200 across the country that get together in the spirit of an old-fashioned barn raising to help local homeowners who are elderly, disabled or on a low or fixed income and cannot afford needed repairs to their homes. The Florence chapter, consisting entirely of volunteers working with locally raised donations, was able to repair 24 homes in the Florence area last year and is trying to increase that number in 2010.

Rebuilding Together is a nonprofit organization with no paid employees, and 100 percent of all donations go directly into the homes of needy or disabled Florence area residents. More information is available at www.rebuildingtogether.org

Each year the Florence chapter gets applications from more than 100 homeowners and but is able to help only a small percentage because of a lack of teams of volunteers and donations.

For more informationor to field a team, e-mail Penn Rogers, president of Rebuilding Together with Christmas in April Florence at RROGERS@sc.rr.com or Rebuilding Together board member Pete Halbert at mhalbert@sc.rr.com.
