An article that appeared in the March 4 edition of the Morning News caught my attention. The article concerned a program announced by the State Housing Finance and Development Authority offering down payment assistance and low-interest mortgages to teachers, firefighters, police and EMS workers who “meet income criteria.”
The article stated that the Authority has $40 million, coming from bonds sold by the agency, to apply to this program. An example was given pertaining to Beaufort County where applicants must make less than $79,000 and can buy up to a $275,000 home.
My questions are: Why should a single dollar of any taxpayer’s money be given to any individual to assist in the purchase of a home? Where did this authority come from? Who decides which privileged individuals will receive this assistance (taxpayer money)?
I never cease to be amazed at the socialists among us. Voters should fight this kind of thinking in every way possible. Those involved in our government that promulgate these kinds of programs should be exposed and have to answer for their actions.
And I have one final question: Where do these indefensible ideas originate?
