Florence man dies in motorcycle crash

TIMMONSVILLE — A 56-year-old man died in a crash Monday afternoon in Timmonsville after he tried to avoid hitting a dog that ran in front of his motorcycle.

Samuel Roberts of Florence died of injuries suffered in the crash, Florence County Coroner M.G. “Bubba” Matthews said.

It happened about 4 p.m. Monday on South Hill Road, according to S.C. Highway Patrol reports.

Roberts was riding his motorcycle with a couple who were on their own motorcycle when a dog dog ran out in front of him, Matthews said. He tried to avoid it and lost control of his motorcycle.

Roberts, who had been wearing a helment, died about an hour later at an area hospital.
