Georgetown County police capture escaped prisoner

GEORGETOWN -- Police in Georgetown County captured a prisoner who escaped in Choopee Tuesday afternoon.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Neil Johnson says the prisoner escaped shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Rose Hill Rd. near the intersection of Carvers Bay Rd. while being transported to jail.

The prisoner is identified as 34 year old Will Dempsy Cooper.

The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office Bloodhound Team was used along with other sheriff's office personnelin the search for Cooper.

Cooper was being transported to the Georgetown County Detention Center on a general session’s bench warrant for purse snatching.

How Cooper escaped is unknown and will be determined after an internal investigation.
