MURRELLS INLET - Georgetown County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a Murrells Inlet man for attempted armed robbery at a bank ATM Thursday night.
According to a press release, 24-year-old James Campbell was arrested after he demanded money with a knife from a bank patron at an ATM.
Sheriff's Deputies responded to the Wachovia Bank at 4390 Hwy 17 Byp in reference to an attempted armed robbery.
Campbell approached the patron and presented what the patron described as a white plastic knife, then demanded money.
When the patron refused, the suspect fled the area on foot into the woods behind the bank.
The suspect was described as a white male, approx 6' tall, wearing red shorts with no shirt and a black doo rag.
The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office Bloodhound Team and Sheriff's Investigators arrived at the bank and immediately started tracking Campbell while investigators began collecting evidence.
As a result of the track, the bloodhound led the team to Campbell's residence on Lotus Ct.
Investigators also located a cell phone at the scene that was identified as Campbell's.
Once officers arrived at the residence, Campbell was arrested without incident.
Campbell is currently being held at the Georgetown County Detention Center where he will formally be charged in the morning.
