HARTSVILLE - The Robert E. Moore Jr. Scholarship Board has announced that Emmy Hamilton McDaniel is the winner of their 2010 scholarship to study agriculture at Clemson University. McDaniel, a graduate of Robert E. Lee Academy, was chosen from a group of applicants in the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences at Clemson University. McDaniel has not declared her Agriculture major.
The scholarship is a four-year award of $1,000 per year.
A one year, $1,000 scholarship was awarded to Rose O’Connor from Sumter. O’Connor graduated St. Francis Xanier High School and will be studying Equine business at Clemson.
Qualifying applicants must reside in Darlington, Lee, Dillon, Sumter or Marlboro counties.
A total of $8,000 in scholarship money was awarded this year to the new recipients and ongoing scholarships: Rebecca Rogers of Hartsville, Heather Coleman of Latta, Richard McCutchen of Bishopville and Jordan Graham of Sumter, Thomas Chaplin of Hartsville and Ryan McCutchen of Bishopville.
Friends and family established the scholarship as a living memorial to the late Robert E. “T-Bone” Moore Jr. of Hartsville. A Clemson graduate, T-Bone was a cotton entomologist, farmer and warehouseman who served farmers in the above five counties of the Pee Dee region.
He loved helping others, and this scholarship was founded as a way to honor him and assist students in the field of agriculture. To date, over $50,500 has been awarded to agriculture majors at Clemson University.
