MOORESVILLE, N.C. – Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation has awarded 26 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grants in South Carolina. These schools received grants during the Spring 2010 grants cycle, and they are some of the more than 450 schools or parent organizations that were awarded a grant for parent-initiated school improvement projects benefiting K-12 public education across the United States.
In Florence, North Vista Elementary School was awarded $2,500 for its Tiger Cub Outdoor Learning Center.
In Myrtle Beach Ocean Bay Elementary School was awarded $2,330 for its Gardens at the Bay project and Burgess Elementary School was awarded $5,000 for its Burgess Elementary School Art Garden project.
“Through our Toolbox for Education grant program, Lowe’s recognizes parent-initiated efforts to enrich the lives of children in our communities,” said Larry D. Stone, chairman of Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation. “By supporting schools in South Carolina we are contributing to a cause that’s important to our customers and employees, and we’re also helping to build a stronger foundation for the children who will be tomorrow’s employees, homeowners and community leaders.”
Launched in partnership with PTO Today, a leading organization serving parent-teacher groups, the Toolbox for Education program has provided more than $20 million through more than 4,000 grants since its inception five years ago. The grants have affected more than 2 million schoolchildren.
