Pleasant Grove Brotherhood Ministry hosts Pre-Father’s Day breakfast
The Brotherhood Ministry of the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church will host a Pre-Father’s Day Prayer Breakfast and Awards ceremony on June 19 at 8:30 a.m., in the ACR Family Resource Center. The Guest Messenger will be Dr. Allie Brooks, Associate Pastor of Savannah Grove Baptist Church, Effingham. Tickets can be purchased from the church secretary or any member of the Brotherhood Ministry.
Deaconess Ministry to host service
Pastor A.C. Robinson along with the Deaconesses of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Marion cordially invites the public to their annual Deaconess Ministry Services on June 27 at 5 p.m. The gospel messenger will be Rev. Montele Burton, Pastor of Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Britton’s Neck accompanied by his choir and church family.
Other special guests will include deacons and deaconess from various churches. All deaconesses are asked to wear white.
St. James A.M.E. Church to hold grandmothers march
St. James A.M.E. Church and the Rev. Georgeann T. Pringle, invite the public to the First Annual Grandmothers March and Hat Parade. The event will feature a concert by the Timmonsville Workshop Choir, Bernetta Easterling and TRI M Choir, Angenean McAllister on June 13 at 4 p.m. The event is sponsored by Marie F. Leonard Women’s Missionary society.
Mullins Church of God to hold vacation bible school
Vacation bible school will be held at Mullins Church of God Wednesday June 16 – June 18 from 7 – 9 p.m. Puppet Love from Florence will be conducting the school. The theme will be “The Jesus Team.”

First United Methodist to host service
The Spirit Singers are returning to First Methodist Church on Father’s Day, June 20 for the 11 a.m. worship service. Family and friends are welcomed for the musical program and a worship service. The group is directed by Kathy Jo of Marion, with accompanist Beth Lewallen of Florence. Grace Community Church to hold vacation bible school
Grace Community Church will hold vacation bible school starting June 13– June 17 at 6 p.m. Children, ages 3-12, are invited to attend. There will be bible lessons, crafts, food and lots of fun for everyone. The church is located at 5050 Temperance Hill Road.
Mount Olive to hold Vacation Bible School
Join Mount Olive Baptist Church for vacation bible school held June 13 through June 18. The fun begins each night at 6:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. Children ages of three years old to sixth grade are invited to attend “Saddle Ridge Ranch.” Students are welcomed to wear any western clothing they may have.
Students will break up into different age groups for their individual classes. They’ll have rotations of crafts, missions, and music each night. A light dinner will be served at the Annex. The evenings will close with praise and worship in the sanctuary. On Friday night, a commencement blast will be held outdoors at the Annex. Parents are encouraged to attend Friday night to enjoy the fun with their children. There will be games galore and a cookout.

Bethlehem AME Church to host event
Bethlehem AME Church 3520 U.S. 501 South in the Rains Community of Marion County where the Rev. Leo Woodberry is the pastor will be hosting a Creation Care Presentation on June 17 at 6 p.m. The presentation will cover the issues of climate change, green jobs, green businesses, energy efficiency, weatherization and Sustainability. Ways to reduce your church and community’s energy costs will be discussed as well as opportunities to apply for grants.

Coalition holds Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) training
The Pee Dee Coalition holds Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) training sessions on various dates throughout the year for women. Formed by Larry Nadeau in 1989, RAD can be two to three days of teaching practical defense mechanisms using basic self-defense techniques. The courses also teach women prevention, risk reduction, and avoidance. The courses are designed for the average person. Pre-registration is required. If attending RAD training, you must attend all sessions. Females under the age of 18 are required to obtain permission from a parent or guardian to participate. Basic training sessions are nine hours, while advanced trainings are 13 hours. For more information or to find out when the next RAD training session is nearest you, call (843) 395-2748. Trainings are offered at no charge to women and teenage girls in the region but sponsors are needed to help keep this valuable service available.
