MYRTLE BEACH -- One person in the United States is added to the transplant waiting list every 11 minutes, according to Donate Life South Carolina. That's why they organized an event to raise awareness about the importance of blood, tissue, and organ donating.

The event was called Linking Hands For Life, and it took place Saturday on the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk.

There was live music and activities, but most importantly, the opportunity for people to sign up on the South Carolina Organ and Tissue Donor Registry.

Doners and recipients linked hands along the boardwalk to support each other, and to remember those that were lost while waiting for transplants.

"The linking hands is used to symbolize the cycle of life. From life, you can also give life in your death," said spokesman Mark Johnson.
