MYRTLE BEACH - Two families were displaced from their homes Tuesday (July 27) after lightning strikes caused fires that produced major damage to their homes.

Two adults were affected by a mobile home fire on Gator Court in Conway while three adults and two children were displaced from their single family home on West Street in Loris.

Red Cross volunteers assisted late Tuesday evening providing for the families immediate emergency needs of food, clothing and shelter.

Since July 1, the local Red Cross has assisted 62 people, including 20 children, who have lost their homes to fire.

The chapter serves clients in Horry, Georgetown and Williamsburg counties.

The Red Cross provides for the immediate emergency needs of disaster victims, which includes lodging, meals and clothing.

In addition, the Red Cross can provide mental health crisis counseling to those in need, as well as assistance in developing a recovery plan to get the family back to pre-disaster conditions as quickly as possible.
