DARLINGTON – Officials are investigating the stabbing death of a Timmonsville man early Saturday morning.
Gary DuRant, 20, died at 7 a.m. in an area hospital, according to a release issued by Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee.
Deputies were called to 1911 Amere Drive, Timmonsville about 3 a.m. Saturday, Capt. Andy Locklair wrote in a Saturday evening press release.
“When they arrived they found that one person had been stabbed and had already left the scene to go to the hospital,” Locklair wrote in the release.
DuRant arrived at the home, forced his way in, got into a fight with the homeowner and was stabbed, Locklair wrote in the release.
Locklair didn’t identify the home owner.
“An autopsy was completed today. The findings from the autopsy will determine if charges are to be filed,” Hardee wrote in the release.
"I will review all the evidence in the next few days. Once this has been done I will meet with Sheriff Byrd and decide when and if an arrest will be made,” Hardee said in the release.
“This case is under investigation and charges have not been filed at this time. Investigators are looking into the fact that the home owner may have acted in self defense,” Locklair wrote.
This incident remains under investigation by the Darlington County Coroner's Office and The Darlington County Sheriff's Office, Hardee said.
