A jury has convicted an Andrews man of conspiracy to distribute more than 50 grams of crack cocaine, possessing with the intent to distribute and distribution of 50 grams or more of crack cocaine, carrying a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and being a felon in possession of a firearm, acting U.S. Attorney Kevin F. McDonald said in a press release issued Friday.
U.S. District Judge P. Michael Duffy presided over the three-day trial, which ended late Thursday in Charleston, and will sentence him later. Seward faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and a maximum sentence of life in prison.
In 2007. Seward distributed more than a kilogram of crack cocaine to various people in and around Andrews and Georgetown. Evidence also established that in April 2008, he distributed 121 grams of crack cocaine to three people in Andrews. Those three have been convicted in this case and are awaiting sentencing.
In addition, Seward possessed a .38-caliber revolver, which was discovered by Georgetown County sheriff’s deputies during a traffic stop in September 2008. Deputies also found marijuana, a large amount of cash and small plastic baggies used for drug packaging.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Peter T. Phillips of the Charleston office handled the case, investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force, which included agents from Drug Enforcement Administration, the S.C. Highway Patrol, Georgetown County and Charleston County sheriff’s office, the Georgetown and North Charleston police departments.
