Some local Doctors and volunteers left Thursday morning to deliver hundreds of pounds of supplies to Port au Prince, Haiti.
These Doctors and volunteers are used to traveling to Haiti for weeks at a time.
They have helped set up clinics, worked in Haitian hospitals, and some have done mission work.
This time, however, their trip will be much shorter.
As the rain was pouring down, Thursday, the supplies were pouring in.
"They're running low on supplies,” said Matt Stover, Emergency Physician. “They don't have food. They don't have water, so we're trying to get some medication down there to them."
Stover has spent time in Haiti, but because of security, he won't be spending much time there this trip.
"Originally I had intended to go down there to help out with the medical aspects of it as well, but we may just be delivering supplies on this trip," Stover said.
The group left Myrtle Beach Thursday morning.
They will arrive in Hope town in the Bahamas Thursday night, where they will pick up another doctor.
Then they will make their way to Port au Prince where they will have thirty minutes to unload hundreds of pounds of supplies, and then head back to Myrtle Beach.
Volunteers say their work is gratifying
"The need is huge, and just to be able to do one little thing like load a couple of bags on a plane,” said Rebecca Lovelace, a volunteer. “Its little, you know, but every little bit helps."
Doctors are keeping their plans open, saying anything could happen once they get down there.
"I'm not quite sure what to expect honestly,” said Stover. “You know we hope to get the medication down there, to unload, and hopefully not run into any problems when we get to the airport down there, and after that, we're going to wait and see."
Hoping all goes smoothly as they travel back to Myrtle Beach on Friday.
While they are in Haiti, they are expecting to pick up a local priest who has been there since last week helping with relief efforts.
He was supposed to fly back several days ago, but his commercial flight was cancelled.
