Man uses hostage hoax to rob Myrtle Beach bank

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Horry County police believe a man scammed a bank teller into giving him money.

Sgt. Robert Kegler says a man went into the First Citizens Bank at 4040 River Oaks Drive about 10:45 Tuesday morning. He told bank workers there was a man holding a woman and child hostage behind the nearby Food Lion who was demanding money to let them go.

The man was given an undisclosed amount of money, left in a pewter-colored Nissan Titan and did not go to the Food Lion. Police discovered there was no incident occurring behind the grocery store and determined the suspect used that as a ploy to get money from the bank tellers.

The suspect is described as a white man, age 50-55, about 200 pounds with grey hair. No weapon was used in the possible robbery. Police are still investigating. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the Horry County Police Dept.
