Ann Mozingo loves to sew, but she normally makes items for herself--or her pets.
"I try to help out at church," Mozingo said Friday morning, as she manned a sewing machine inside Posh Living, an interior design boutique in Surfside Beach. Mozingo and some 20 other volunteers are working nearly nonstop to get a massive load of sewing done by the end of the weekend.
It's all part of the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" effort underway at Derrick and Amanda Suggs' home near Loris. The family will get a brand-new home Monday morning, and by that time, Layla Altman and her team at Posh have to have more than 30 window panels, several bed covers, and dozens of pillows, slip covers, and shades in place.
"The deadline is set," said Altman. "We sent out an e-mail last Friday and immediately got calls. Everybody was ready to pitch in," she said.
And there is plenty of last-minute drama to go around: with any good last-minute major television production, there are bound to be last-minute changes.
"We're still waiting for some of the fabric to arrive," said Altman. "So we'll have two more days to get the larger portion of it done," she said.
"That definitely is an extreme sewing bee experience," she said.
