Church invites the public to services
The members of Centerville Missionary Baptist Church, where the Rev. William N. Pee is pastor, invite the public to weekly services. Prayer and Bible study is each Wednesday evening at 6:30 pm. Sunday school is at 10 a.m. followed by worship service at 11a.m. each Sunday. The church is located at 5211 Pennell St. in Centenary, SC.
Church to offer program
Beginning Jan. 11 St. James Living Well and Young at Heart Senior / Adult Ministry offers the program. The goal is to provide a Holistic Ministry.

Bethel AME Church to have King Day celebration
The Britton’s Neck Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee invites the public to the annual King Day March and Celebration. The event will be held on Monday, Jan. 18 beginning at 1 p.m. The celebration will begin with a memorial march from Bethel AME Church to Red Hill Missionary Baptist in Britton’s Neck. A celebration service will be held in Red Hill’s Sanctuary immediately after the march.

NAACP 100 year celebration
The public is invited to attend the Martin Luther King Jr./ NAACP 100-year celebration on Sunday, Jan.17 at 4 p.m. at the historic Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Mullins on the corner of Mullins and Church St.
The Keynote speaker will be the Rev. Jesse Washington, Jr.

Marion County Republican Party to hold meeting
The Marion County Republican Party will introduce Senator Gresham Barrett as the guest speaker at its January meeting. Senator Barrett is running for governor of South Carolina. The event will be held at the Beeson Building 206 Airport Ct., Mullins just off of Highway 76 between Marion and Mullins. Meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Jan. 21.
Mullins Recreation holding basketball league meeting
Mullins Recreation will be holding a coaches meeting for an adult basketball league on Wednesday, Jan. 13at the city gym on Park Street at 5:30 p.m.
Congressman Gresham Barrett to Speak in Marion County
United States Congressman, and gubernatorial candidate, Gresham Barrett will be speaking at the Marion County Republican Party’s meeting on Jan. 21. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and will be held at the Beeson Building, just off Highway 76 between Marion and Mullins. The address is 206 Airport Court Mullins, 29574.

Free Tax Preparation in 2010
Volunteer tax preparation services will again be available throughout the Marion County area this year. Volunteers will be helping people whose incomes are $49,000 or less to prepare and electronically file their federal and state tax returns.
The Sites will be Palmetto Education Center, Mullins, Remcare in Marion and Centenary Community Center in Centenary – Monday and Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. beginning January 18 – April 13.
Taxpayers must have valid photo identification and Social Security Cards (or Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers) for themselves, spouses and dependents. They should also being in possession of this year’s tax package (if available), wage and earnings statements (Forms W-2), interest and dividend statements (Forms 1099), a copy of last year’s return, and any other information concerning their income and expenses for 2009. For joint, e-filed returns, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms.
Taxpayers should ensure their Form W-2, wage statement, will be mailed on time to the correct address by their employers. If in doubt, their employer should be contacted. If the employer is no longer in business or is unreachable, taxpayers should collect the employer’s name, last known or current address (including zip code) and tax identification number and call the IRS help line at 1-800-829-1040 for assistance.
The IRS also reminds taxpayers that social security cards for every person shown on the tax return will be required in order to receive tax help at a volunteer assistance site. They should contact their local Social Security office for more information regarding social security numbers.

Pee Dee Chapter of the South Carolina Genealogical Society to hold meeting
The Pee Dee Chapter of the South Carolina Genealogical Society will be holding January and February meetings.
Lt. Colonel Frank Horton, Ret. will present a program about the Sons of the American Revolution, including the criteria for membership and required documents.
The Chapter will meet at 3 p.m. in the conference center of Pee Dee Federal Savings & Loan, 106 East Court Street in Marion, across the square from the Marion County Courthouse. The meeting is open to the public.
