An 11-year-old girl and the man suspected of abducting her have been found in Manning, according to a State Law Enforcement Division press release.
Lemuel R. Cartwright, 56, is accused of abducting his daughter, 11-year-old Alexis Cartwright, on Jan. 3.
Manning police found the two at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of a CVS Pharmacy. The girl was in good condition, according to the release.
The N.C. Department of Social Services is in the process of making arrangements for Alexis’ return.
She was last seen at the Cumberland Children’s Hospital in New Kent County, Va., and was though be in need of immediate medical attention, SLED spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said. Earlier Wednesday, she said, agents believed the two were in the Georgetown area.
SLED has felony warrants on file for Cartwright charging him with abduction and child neglect. He will be held on a federal warrant and is scheduled to appear in federal court Thursday, according to the release.
The New Kent, Va., Sheriff's Office thanked SLED, Manning Police Department, CVS Pharmacies, Virginia State Police, the FBI, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the N.C. Center for Missing Children for their assistance.
