DeLoach to be honored by Hall of Fame
The 2010 South Carolina Business Hall of Fame, presented by BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, will honor Harris E. DeLoach Jr., chairman, president and CEO of Sonoco; M. Edward Sellers, chairman and CEO of BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina; and the late Silas C. McMeekin, former chairman and CEO of South Carolina Electric & Gas, at its 26th annual banquet May 27 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.
Born in Columbia, Harris E. DeLoach graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Business Administration and earned a J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1969. DeLoach joined Sonoco Products Company in Hartsville in 1986 as vice president of administration and general counsel. He has been at his current position since 2005.
Local doctor honored
Dr. Leroy Robinson, Women’s Care of Hartsville, has been voted in to Alpha Omega Alpha the Honor Medical Society. He was awarded this honor as an alumni by the students of the chapter of Alpha Omega Alpha at USC School of Medicine. Only a small number of students, faculty, residents and alumni are chosen each year for election into this Honor Medical Society.
Robinson Plant to test sirens at full volume
In cooperation with Chesterfield, Darlington and Lee counties, Progress Energy will test the alert notification sirens in the 10-mile area around Progress Energy’s Robinson Nuclear Plant between 1 and 3 p.m. Wednesday.
During the short duration test the sirens will sound for approximately 15 seconds at least one time, but they may sound more than once during the period. Progress Energy conducts the short duration test every three months.
Sonoco names vice president
Sonoco, one of the largest diversified global packaging companies, announced that Allan McLeland has been named staff vice president, Human Resources, Industrial, according to Cindy Hartley, senior vice president, Human Resources.
McLeland will provide human resources leadership and oversight for the Company’s North American industrial-based businesses. He reports directly to Hartley.
A native of Charlotte, N.C., McLeland has a B.A. degree in psychology and an MBA from the University of South Carolina.
Hospital auxiliary offers scholarships
The Auxiliary of Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center offers scholarships annually to area students who are interested in pursuing a career in any area of the medical profession. Students must have been accepted into a program at a college or university to be eligible for the scholarships.
Any scholarship awarded is paid directly to the school in the student’s name. All aspects of the medical world, including but not limited to radiology, laboratory, nursing, physician, physical therapy, surgical tech and speech therapy are just a few of the many fields of study available for students consideration and scholarship eligibility.
Scholarship applications may be obtained after March 1 from the Community Relations Department at Carolina Pines by calling (843) 339-4195 or from the hospital gift shop. All applications must be completed and returned by 4 p.m. April 15.
