A diabetes education program titled “Journey for Control” will begin at 6:30 p.m. March 2 at iH3 Wellness Center in Lake City.
The session will be taught by Jane Player, Rph, CDE, of Lake City. Player has worked as a pharmacist at Price Wise Pharmacy for more than 30 years.
The program, sponsored by Merck Pharmaceuticals, aims to advance diabetes education for the type 2 diabetic population. It is described as a comprehensive educational program designed to enlighten and empower patients by giving them the information and tools they need to make the lifestyle changes that lead to improved diabetes self-management.
Player also is the owner of Pee Dee Diabetic Consultants, located in the pharmacy, where she has specialized for 15 years in diabetes education, self management and nutrition.
Pee Dee Diabetic Consultants was certified in 1995 by the American Diabetes Association and in 2009 by thee American Association of Diabetes Educators. In 2008, it was one of 50 programs the National Pharmacy Institute recognized for innovation in diabetes education.
Player received her undergraduate education at Clemson University and her bachelor’s in pharmacy as well as diabetes management and hypertensive management certification from the Medical University of South Carolina, in Charleston. Player also holds certification in Diabetic Foot Care from Harvard University. She became a certified diabetes educator in 2003, after she completed 2,000 hours of teaching and diabetes self-management courses.
The program is free and currently available only for members of the iH3 Wellness Center. Members should contact the club directly at (843) 374-4433 to sign up for the program. Space is limited to 50 people per session.
