MYRTLE BEACH -- Freestyle Music Park will not open at its scheduled time this season. Its regular season was set to begin in March; but it will now re-open mid-April at the earliest.

Representatives for the Myrtle Beach theme park were in federal court in Delaware Tuesday.

Park spokesperson Michelle Cantey told News13, prior to the hearing, Freestyle Music Park and the Hard Rock Park trustee agreed to grant the park until April 1 to make payment.

If no payment is made by then, a judgment will automatically take place against Freestyle for the full amount.

The park's spokesperson says it will take at least 8-10 weeks until the lawsuits are settled to re-open the park, because that’s how long it takes to inspect all of the rides.

The delayed opening hurts Freestyle as well as businesses near the park.

Jeff Rodier had to close down his ice cream shop “Coasters” across from the park.

He thinks Freestyle's re-opening delay will have a minimal impact on his other business, Art and Frame Outlet, but could hurt other businesses around Freestyle.

“I think primarily the resort type businesses such as the restaurants over at Holiday Inn, the Boathouse restaurant, the Blue Green resort, those areas are certainly harmed in the delay in the opening,” said Rodier.

Habibi's owner Mike Safa says his Lebanese-style restaurant gets a lot of business from people stopping in before and after they hit the rides at Freestyle.

“This is a good location here where people pass by all the time on their way to the park, you know, so if they come into the park they have to pass by our stores and we make business from that and if the park closes, we lose some business from that, definitely,” said Safa.

Business owners we spoke to say they hope Freestyle opens by the start of summer and if the park doesn't open they want something else to be constructed in its place.
