MOUNT PLEASANT – Mount Pleasant Town Councilman Ken Glasson announced his intention to run in the Republican primary for the First Congressional Distrcit according to a release from the councilman.

According to the release, Glasson made the announcement Feb. 15 at noon at Mt. Pleasant Waterfront Memorial Park his intention to via for the seat being vacated by retiring Rep. Henry Brown. “America has gone way off course, and somebody needs to help steer the ship back,” Glasson, a military veteran and business owner, said.

Glasson, father of two, considers the huge growth and power of the federal government a threat to all Americans. He believes Congress has lost its accountability and representatives have stopped worrying about representing their constituents in favor of back-room deals, the release said. “I want to shine a light on what’s going on in Congress,” he said in the release, “As your representative, I’ll always let you know where I stand.”

The release aid Glasson considers the most important issues facing our country today to be the economy, the unrestrained growth and power of the federal government over our lives and our national security. “At the very least, we should demand that every bill that comes on the floor of the House be read – in it entirety – before any vote is taken. If the American people are going to have to abide by it and pay for it, then everyone should know exactly what’s in it,” Glasson said.

Glasson is a Mustang lieutenant colonel in the Marine Corps Reserve, entering his thirtieth year of service, having served in nearly everywhere in the world and in several conflicts, including the Persian Gulf, Kosovo, the Global War on Terror and the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. He coordinated the Marine Corps Marathon in 1992 and then ran it as a participant and participated again in 1994, completing it both times. Glasson is currently an intelligence officer, with top-secret clearance. His current billet is with the Wounded Warrior Regiment, according to the release.
As an entrepreneur, Glasson has built several successful businesses, the release said, including insurance and a financial planning company in the Lowcountry.

Glasson was elected in 2006 to Mount Pleasant Town Council, where he served as a Councilman at Large. He chairs the Bids and Purchases and Fire Committees and serves on the Finance and Public Services Committees.

The First Congressional District runs from Charleston to Myrtle Beach, covering Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester, Georgetown and Horry Counties.
