Sen. Malloy named Legislator of the Year
The South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (SCCADVASA) will honor Sen. Gerald Malloy as its Legislator of the Year at their annual meeting at noon today at Leaside Conference Center, 100 East Exchange Place Columbia.

Through his leadership on key issues like DNA Fingerprinting and Reduction of Recidivism Act, Sen. Malloy has proven to be a dedicated and effective ally in the fight against domestic violence and sexual assault.

As Chairman of South Carolina’s Sentencing Reform Commission, Malloy continues to push for reforms that would help protect victims of sexual assault and domestic violence from their abusers.

Museum featured Hartsville artifacts

Throughout February, come see some of what citizens have given the museum for their collections during the past year in the Showcase Gallery at the Hartsville Museum. It is because of our community’s generous donations that we are able to create exhibits that tell the story of our town’s history. The Hartsville Museum has collected, preserved, exhibited and stored over 10,000 artifacts since its opening in 1980 in the Atlantic Coastline Passenger Station. The museum, now in the old postal building on the corner of Home Avenue and North Fifth Street is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free.

Piggly Wiggly adds rewards club

Piggly Wiggly Carolina Co. has added even greater value to its Greenbax Rewards program to help ensure that 2010 is a better year for everybody. Through Feb. 23, the Pig has upped the ante, giving a full ‘Greenbax’ for every coupon redeemed, up to 10 coupons per visit for everyone who shops with a Pig Card.

The value of a Greenbax varies, but is typically worth at least $1.50 each and sometimes more. Greenbax are electronically added to a customer’s account when they use their loyalty card—the Pig Card.

At the end of February, Piggly Wiggly will hold Greenbax Days Feb. 26-28 when customers once again can use up to 10 Greenbax for $15 in free groceries every time they shop. Plus, there will be extra savings with Greenbax throughout the month.

Harmony Care Hospice promotes Calhoun
Harmony Care Hospice, one of South Carolina’s leading hospice providers, announces the promotion of Dawn Calhoun, RN, to regional director.

A seasoned health care professional, Calhoun joined the company in 2008 as a registered nurse case manager and quickly rose to a management position as clinical director of the Hartsville office.

In her position as regional director, Calhoun will take on an expanded role to include clinical oversight for both Hartsville and Lake City offices as well as play a critical role in developing collaborative relationships and expanding services throughout the Pee Dee.

Calhoun earned her nursing degree from Florence-Darlington Technical College. Extensive clinical experience and respected leadership skills serve as a solid foundation for Calhoun’s new regional responsibilities.

Palmetto People focuses on Hartsville
In February, Palmetto People focuses several episodes on Hartsville. You can see Palmetto People on your schedule on Carolina On Demand, Channel 1234. In Darlington, the shows air at 2, 4, 6 and 9 p.m. on Time Warner channel four and in Hartsville on channel 6.
Monday’s episode will begin with a visit to the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics, where Dr. Murray Brockman shares tips with parents on how to build an excitement for science with kids. Next Mark Johnson explains that all those who want to be organ donors need to sign on to the South Carolina Organ and Tissue Donor Registry. The program winds down with a visit to an operating room at the Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center and a conversation with C.E.O. Lance Jones.
