Each year in the United States approximately 1.6 million new cases of diabetes are diagnosed in people 20 years or older, bringing the total cases of children and adults living with diabetes in the United States to over 23.6 million, a number that continues to grow rapidly. With such extreme statistics, it is exceedingly important that once diagnosed, you learn how to take care of your body and keep your blood sugar under control.
Marion Regional Healthcare System has launched a new Diabetes Program designed for those living with diabetes. The first program will be held Feb. 16 at 5:30 pm, at Marion County Medical Center.
The topic for the evening will be an overview of diabetes and healthy lifestyle changes that can help keep your diabetes under control.
The program will continue with free monthly meetings held the third Tuesday of each month at 5:30 pm. Upcoming topics for the spring series include:
• Effects of diabetes, including foot and eye care
• Monitoring your blood sugar
• Cooking for diabetics
For new diabetics, Marion Regional Healthcare System offers an introductory course to learn about lifestyle changes, how to control diabetes and monitoring blood sugar.
