FLORENCE – A pedestrian died Monday night when she was struck by a pickup truck as she tried to cross US 52 near the Pilot Travel Center at the Interstate 95 interchange.

According to Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins, at 8:50 p.m. the 67-year-old woman was in the road when she was struck by a 1997 Dodge pickup, which was traveling south on US 52.

Florence County Coroner M.G. “Bubba” Matthews identified the victim as Christiane Magier of Tois-Riveres, Quebec, Canada.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, Matthews said.

Collins said the pickup driver was uninjured and would not face charges in the incident.

The crash remains under investigation, Collins said.
