HARTSVILLE -- A Hartsville gymnastics coach is facing felony charges after deputies said he sent illicit text messages to one of his pupils, according to a press release issued Monday by the Darlington County Sheriff’s office.
Kristopher Berry ,35, of 1900 Patrick Highway was arrested on Jan. 29 and is charged with lewd act upon a minor and solicitation of a minor, according to the release.
An investigation revealed the suspect gave the victim, his student, a cell phone so she could received explicit messages from him.
Berry was a part-time employee for Gymnastics Center of Hartsville.
The owners had not been contacted by law enforcement as of Tuesday, and to their knowledge nothing occurred at the facility according to their lawyer Tom Elliott Jr. of Columbia.
Berry was released from the Darlington County Detention Center after posting a $30,000 bond.
