Thousands of kids and parents from the Pee Dee came out to the 5th annual Kids Jamboree on Saturday at Florence Civic Center. With more than 20 rides and inflatables, the kids were beaming with excitement as they went from sliding down the super slide to climbing the rock wall. They also loaded up on sugary treats like snocones and cotton candy.
Tina Dean, the organizer of the event, said the year of planning it takes is well worth it.
“When you see the look on their face the minute they walk in and they see all these things going on,” she said. “They are thrilled and it just warms your heart.”
For parents, it’s not only a fun environment, it’s a safe one.
“We came back after last year because we had a great time,” said Tarah Boykin from Florence. “It’s a fun environment and a safe environment for the kids.”
The event also featured many shows from Ronald McDonald to karaoke and the Skin ’n Bones Comedy Circus.
Boykin said her daughter isn’t overwhelmed by the crowds and the noise. “She absolutely loves it,” she said.
The presenting sponsors of the event are McDonalds, Piggly Wiggly/Greenbax, and Quantam radio stations 103X and Eagle 92.9.
The Jamboree also runs Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $6 per person to play all day.
