SURFSIDE BEACH- The Surfside Police Department arrested four people for breaking into vending machines Wednesday morning.

According to a press release, Marshall Earl Jones, Jennifer Marie Jones, Franklin Newman Causey, and Rita Jo Bass were charged with crimes ranging from possession of criminal tools to malicious damage to property.

Officers said at around 3 a.m. they noticed suspicious activity outside Maytag Laundromat, 423 Highway 17 South.

As the officer approached the business, the suspects fled the location in a vehicle.

After a search, the abandoned vehicle was found at an unoccupied home.

While searching the location officers found four people hiding in a shed in the rear of the residence and were taken into custody.

A check of the business revealed that a vending machine had been forced open.

Two of the suspects admitted to participating in several other larcenies in Georgetown County.

Several burglary tools were recovered in addition to a large bag containing in excess of $200.00 in coins.
