AYNOR - A field investigator with the Horry County Auditor's office is charged with among other things, driving under the influence and threatening the life of a public official. Police say he was driving a county vehicle at the time of the arrest.
Aynor Police arrested Kenneth Olen Ward, 46, of Aynor Thursday night. He was booked at J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 12:42 Friday morning.
According to the detention center's website, Ward is charged with violation of paraphnelia; simple possession of marijuana; no South Carolina driver's license; violation seat belt law; threatening life, person or family of public official; driving under the influence; and open contain of beer/wine in vehicle.
According to Aynor Police Chief Leonard McCrackin, "The officer found him (Ward) in a county vehicle. He was taken into county custody with the above charges. The officer is finishing the report. We have no other details at this time but will once the report is turned in on Monday." Chief McCrackin also tells News13 Ward made threats to the officer while he was being transported to J. Reuben, but he did not know what the threats were.
Horry County Spokesperson Lisa Bourcier says Ward's employment as a field investigator in the auditor's office started in February of 2007. Bourcier says County Auditor, Lois Earle is aware of the situation, but is out of town at a conference.
“I do not tolerate this type of behavior and he is immediately dismissed. I am really disappointed in him,” said Horry County Auditor, Lois Eargle.
Ward is out of jail on a personal recognizance bond.
